The United States were eliminated after suffering a defeat 2-1 against Belgium in the second round game of the ongoing FIFA world cup in Brasil
The game extended into extra time after both teams failed to score during normal regulations period. Belgium went ahead in the first period of extra time when Romelu Lukaku assisted the first and scored the second in a scintillating encounter.
However, the United States were able to pull one back on the restart of the other half of extra time but were rather unlucky not to have gotten the equaliser squandering a couple of chances late in the game.
The coach of the team Jüergen Klinsmann however, remain optimistic about the future the team after qualifying to the round of sixteen from the group of death that had Portugal, Germany and Ghana.
“Obviously it was a bummer for us to end on the losing side (but) it was a game which gave everything to the
fans, to the crowd,”
“It was real drama, a thriller. We had enough possibilities to equalise the game or even put it away earlier. It was a game that just went to the extreme.”Klinsmann said
“We kept playing, kept fighting. probably unlucky not to get the equaliser at the end.
He concluded saying “the team’s performances in Brazil would provide another boost to the sport in North
