The Nigerian police have been able to apprehend an Assistant Inspector in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lasisi Kabir Iyanda following the murder last month of an Islamic Religious Knowledge teacher, Kamaldeen Muritala, 32, who was working at Titilope Islamic Comprehensive High School, Ejigbo, Osun State.
Investigations conducted by the police detectives from the Osun State Police Command, Osogbo revealed that the victim died at Baptist Hospital, Ejigbo from complications arising from stab wounds inflicted on his neck with a jack-knife by the NSCDC official during an argument
close to the entrance of an examination hall where the National Examination Council examination was taking place.
Following her death, students and citizens of the state attempted to raze down office structures belonging to the NSCDC as well as those of other government establishments in the area in a quest for revenge, but the timely intervention of the police prevented further breakdown of law and order.
A statement on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, enjoined citizens never to take the laws into their own hands no matter the provocation, promising that justice would be served in this case.
The incident happened on June 27, 2014.
