The screening of the newly appointed service chiefs by the Senate commenced on Tuesday behind closed doors.
The screening earlier slated for last Thursday, was postponed to today, Tuesday, due to the pulling out parade programme in honour of the former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal, Alex Badeh, which took place in Abuja last week.
The closed-session, which started at about 11:25am, was still on-going as of the time of filing this report.
The screening is pursuant to a letter President Muhammadu Buhari wrote to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, seeking the confirmation of the red chamber for the appointment of new service chiefs.
It would be recalled that Buhari on July 13, announced the appointment of Major General Abayomi Olonishakin, Chief of Defence Staff; Major General Tukur Buratai, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, Chief of Naval Staff; Air Vice-Marshal Sadique Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff; and Air Vice-Marchal Monday Morgan as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
He also appointed retired Major General Babagana Monguno as National Security Adviser.
