Alleged Assassination Plots: APC Says PDP Yet To Purge Itself Of Cheap, Manipulative Strategies
The governing All Progressives Congress, APC, made the call yesterday in reaction to a statement by the opposition spokesman, Olisa Metuh that the APC was behind the failed assassination attempt on Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and had also unleashed a “killer squad” on some other prominent leaders of the PDP.
In a statement issued in Abuja by its acting National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Timi Frank, the APC said the PDP’s allegation was part of the party’s induced hallucination.
The APC spokesman said it was unfortunate that the PDP was yet to purge itself of “it’s cheap and manipulative strategies that only helped escort it to the doldrums that it is in today”.
Frank said it was bemusing and canny of the opposition party to resort to such cheap and strange propaganda in its attempt to taint the change mantra the APC has sworn to betroth to the nation.
Accusing the leading opposition party of adopting what it described as its past known strategy of cheap political gains, the statement pointed out that PDP could not feign ignorance of the APC’s adherence to the rule of law and respect for sanctity of life.
The past 16 years of PDP’s rule, the statement recalled, saw a minister, Chief Bola Ige, politicians like Harry Marshall and Funso Williams assassinated with no attempt to unravel the mysteries surrounding their death.
“It would, therefore, be unfortunate for the PDP to elevate this strategic act it had perfected over the years to a political art or a propaganda tool.
“Nigerians all over the world know that President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC are more concerned with cleaning the mess the PDP-led government bequeathed to the government than in chasing after lousy and cheap propaganda of a misplaced party that is pretending to be chasing self-restitution”, Frank said in the statement.
Asking Nigerians to disregard the PDP’s latest propaganda, the APC acting publicity secretary said it was funny that an alleged assassination attempt would be carried out on a high ranking officer of government without any security report, with the police vehemently denying the existence of such even when the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police formed part of Ekweremadu’s security detail.
The media aide to the deputy president of the Senate, Uche Anichukwu, had on Tuesday issued a statement to the effect that his boss narrowly escaped assassination while on his way to the office at about 10:00am between Apo Flyover and Dantata Construction Company’s yard, close to the Old Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, junction in Abuja.
The suspected assassins, who Mr. Anichukwu said operated in an unmarked, tinted, brand new, white-colored Mercedez Benz AMG E63, “were reportedly chauffeured by a long-bearded light skinned foreigner, apparently a mercenary”.
But Mr. Frank maintained that “The security challenges of the time bequeathed to us by the PDP, who would rather embezzle funds meant for protection of lives and properties, necessitate that President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC to get more concerned on how to bring the situation to a stop as manifested by the December deadline issued by Mr. President than delving into cheap political propaganda and machinations only peculiar and orchestrated by the PDP”.
He added that “Governance is a serious businesses and this APC is committed to showing”.
