Minister, CBN Confirmed Loot Are Returned

The return of loot earlier made known by President Muhammadu Buhari has generated a lot of debate on socio-political platform in Nigeria. Critics are of the opinion that the President is lying about the loot, asking him to show proof. Well, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has confirmed that some fund were returned to the government.

What is yet unknown is who are those that have returned the stolen money, how much of the stolen fund was returned and what the President intends to do with the money. This the President, Minister of Finance or the CBN didn’t answer to.

While addressing the issue, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femoi Adesina, also confirmed that some stolen money has started entering the CBN’s pulse.

He said, “The stolen fund is coming in through CBN. The apex bank has the mandate to speak on the procedure, and how much has entered so far.” He added that the President is yet to decide on whether to pardon those who returned the loot, if he would prosecute them or not.

Also the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun told pressmen that the Federal Government had yet to put a particular figure as to how much of the stolen money that has been returned, because it is a continuous process and still ongoing.

“Although funds are being returned but we can’t really give figures now. The process is ongoing. At the end of our collation the accounts will be available, and the money would be return to where they are stolen and that is where we have not arrived at”

The minister maintained that after due collation of the looted fund returned, figures would be made available for public to see.
