Sambo DasukiThe stand-off between former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki and the State Security Services, SSS, reached a climax on Tuesday as he was finally arrested and driven away from his Abuja residence.

The arrest of Mr. Dasuki, a retired colonel, brings an end to weeks of siege laid on his residence by SSS operatives.

The former NSA was first arrested by the SSS in July after the security agency kept him under house arrest for about three days. He was charged to court with illegal possession of firearms and money laundering; all of which he denies.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja later ordered the Nigerian government to release Mr. Dasuki’s passport to enable him travel abroad for medical treatment.

The move suffered a setback as the SSS again blocked Dasuki from leaving his house the night he was supposed to catch a flight out of the country.

The hide-and-seek game however reached a crescendo on Tuesday morning as sources say SSS operatives ordered Mr. Dasuki out of his residence and drove him away to their headquarters in the Asokoro District of Abuja.

The former NSA’s arrest came less than 24 hours after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, picked up a former Minister of State for Finance, Amb. Bashir Yuguda, and some top officials in the Office of the NSA.
