Abdulrahman DambazauThe Minister of Interior, General Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.) and Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, might be headed for a showdown if reports of recent developments between the duo is anything to go by.

It was learnt that since Dambazau formally assumed office as minister over a week ago, the IG has never attended public functions at the ministry, which supervises the Nigeria Police Force and other para-military agencies in the country.

The police used to have its own ministry until the Muhammadu Buhari administration merged it with the ministry of interior as part of efforts to reduce the cost of governance.

On two occasions when the ministry had public functions, Mr. Arase only sent representatives.

Mr. Dambazau, who was shocked again at Arase’s absence when the Nigerian Legion visited the ministry yesterday, asked immediately he entered his conference room “Where is the police and Civil Defence? I have not seen The Police”.

Sources at the ministry who observed the trend and spoke to Daily Trust, also expressed concern over what they termed the IGP’s continued absence at functions called by Dambazau.

One of them who pleaded anonymity said: “We have also observed the IG’s continued absence at minister’s functions. When other heads of agencies will come, the IG has been sending representative since the minister resumed”.
