NSCDC-RecruitmentThe Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, may have finalised plans to embark on secret mass recruitment of personnel, indications emerged on Tuesday.

Though, the Corps had denied on several occasions that it was recruiting anytime soon, it was reliably gathered by a Daily Trust reporter that employment process is actually taking place secretly.

The bubble on the secret recruitment into the NSCDC burst when some top officials of the corps, who were reportedly uncomfortable with the sharing formula of slots, decided to slug it out with the Commandant General, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu.

Inside sources, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, disclosed that the Commandant General allocated 10 slots to each of the 36 states commandants while the Deputy Commandant General (DCGs), who form part of his management team, reportedly got one slot each, hence, the in-fighting.

One of the officers said most of the names have been compiled while the NSCDC is set to issue out backdated appointment letters soon.

“The letters would be backdated several months and payments likely to be made. The newly-recruited are to be deployed in the states”, the source hinted.

Reacting to reports of in-fighting between CG Muhammadu and the DCGs over recruitment, the spokesperson of the NSCDC, Emmanuel Okeh, denied any rift just as he shut down rumours that the corps was recruiting.

Mr. Okeh pointed out that the NSCDC has only got approval from the Presidency to recruit in March next year.

He, however, remained silent on the number of personnel the Presidency has approved to be recruited in the first quarter of 2016.

“We hear a lot of information about recruitment going on at the Corps, but we don’t take it serious again because we have come to realise that it is the desperate move of people to get employment that had led to people alleging that the Corps was employing.

“We are neither employing now nor doing replacement”, Okeh stated.

NGTrends reports that the NSCDC is a para-military agency of the federal government of Nigeria that is commissioned to provide measures against threat and any form of attack or disaster against the nation and its citizenry.
