Ooni of IfeThe newly coroneted Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has unveiled his plans to facilitate the building of an international airport in the mythological cradle of mankind.

The Ooni, who is a successful businessman and real estate magnate, added that in his first ten years on the throne, the change he would bring to the ancient town of Ile-Ife, would be visible to all.

He, however, stressed that he cannot achieve anything without peace and unity of Ife town.

Oba Ogunwusi said this in an exclusive interview with The Nation.

The monarch pointed out that what he has already started in the town in his first few days on the throne, is a pointer to his zeal to change the economic, social and cultural landscape of Ile-Ife.

He said: “In 10 years, it will be obvious we are making progress. In the few days that I ascended the throne, you can see what has been done. The most important thing is unity and peace. That is key.

“If there is peace and unity, a lot of things will be happening, naturally.

“So, in 10 years, development will be so obvious; international airport, bringing everybody to come and see the glory, history and tradition of this land. Yes, an international airport.

“It will happen, yes! One of the best international airports in the world will be here. I am working towards it and so help me God”.

Recall that the Ooni last month, began the replication of his breath-taking Inagbe Grand Resorts Lagos, in Ile-Ife (said to cost N7.6 billion), with almost hundred per cent of raw materials used in its construction, locally sourced from the town.

The effort, according to him, has created jobs for over 3,000 people, particularly youths, in the town.

The Ooni also disclosed that as a result of his effort, some roads had been tarred while several communities have taken delivery of electric transformers.
