Pro-Biafra Protests Not In Interest Of Igbo – Eze Ndigbo Bauchi

Biafra-protestersThe Igbo community in Bauchi State have been advised to shun any unlawful agitation that will undermine the unity and peace of the nation.

The Eze Ndigbo Bauchi, Eze J Umezika, who gave the advice at an interactive session with the state commissioner of police, CP Baba Tijjani on Saturday, also urged the Igbo community to distance themselves from the pro-Biafra protests taking place in some parts of the country.

The interactive session, which held at the police headquarters in Bauchi, was part of efforts to enhance existing police public partnership towards effective policing in the state.

According to Mr Umezika “The new agitation for Biafra is uncalled for, ill-conceived and ill-motivated. It is not in the interest of Igbo communities and an attempt to destroy peace and unity presently enjoyed in the nation.

“It is also targeted to ignite a national conflict and cause chaos, pandemonium and confusion in the country. The Igbos have made tremendous progress since the civil war, hence the people of the South East and their future is better guaranteed and sustained within a united Nigeria

“Nigeria is an indivisible entity and has gone beyond the issue of civil war. Any agitation must be within the ambit of respect for the indivisibility of Nigeria and the constitution”.

The Eze Ndigbo expressed the willingness of the Igbo community in the state to give maximum support and co-operation to the police in order to provide safety and security in the state just as he hailed the police boss for the warm reception, hard work and selfless service of the officers and men of the command in ensuring peace and stability in the state.

Earlier, CP Tijjani assured the Igbo community in the state that the police command is fully committed to providing safe and secure environment for all citizens.

He also called for cooperation from the Igbo community in providing useful information that may assist in protection of lives and property in the state.
