Singer, Rita Ora has dragged Jay Z’s Roc Nation to Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, asking for her recording contract to be declared in violation of California law and unenforceable under the state’s “seven year rule.”
In court papers obtained by People, Ora claims her “relationship with Roc Nation is irrevocably damaged” seven years after she was signed in 2008.
According to the complaint, “Roc Nation has made it clear that if Rita wants a recording career, she’s on her own. Working around Roc Nation’s lack of focus and support, Rita has pushed forward with her recording career, self-funding her promotional television appearances, recording costs and video projects.”
As a “handful of admittedly worthy heritage superstar artists” have received the label’s support, Ora has “only been able to record one album in seven years,” the complaint alleges.
