The management of Hassan Ibrahim Gwarzo Secondary School in Kano State, where some male students were allegedly sodomized about a month ago by unknown persons, have been told by the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to produce the perpetrators or face the music.
The management of the school had reportedly attempted to sweep the matter under the rug until the whistle was blown on it by a concerned citizen, forcing the Kano State Government to shut down the school and set up an investigative panel to investigate the matter.
Although the panel was given two weeks to submit report of its findings, it asked for an additional week, which has since elapsed, yet, its report has not been made public.
Weighing in on the matter when he received wives of police officers in the state under the aegis of Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) yesterday, Emir Sanusi insisted that management of the school must produce the people that abused the students.
“If the management of the school fails to produce perpetrators of the act, then they would bear the punishment”, he said.
The emir vowed that the matter could not be swept under the carpet, saying punishment must be meted out to serve as deterrent to others.
Earlier, chairperson of the Kano chapter of POWA and wife of the state Commissioner of Police, Hajiya Saliha Muhammad Musa Katsina, said the delegation was at the palace of the Emir to seek his advice.
Saliha expressed the association’s concern about the increasing rate of child molestation in the state.
“The menace of child rape and drug abuse among minors in Kano State is disturbing. The association has embarked on serious campaign against the problem. We are at your palace to seek for your advice on how best to go about this crusade. We want all stakeholders to partner the association so that we can achieve the desired objectives”, she said.
