How I Shared N100m Received From Anenih – Falae

Olu-FalaeA former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and National Chairman of Social Democratic Party, Chief Olu Falae, yesterday shed more light on how he disbursed the N100 million he received from erstwhile Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih, ahead of the 2015 general elections.

Investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, established that the money came from the $2.1 billion arms fund allegedly diverted by former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

The embattled former NSA had given N260 million to Chief Anenih allegedly on instructions from former President Goodluck Jonathan, to mobilize support across the political divide for his re-election.

In a letter he wrote to the EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, confirming that he received the said sum from Mr. Dasuki, the PDP chieftain explained that the money was not for his personal use as it was subsequently disbursed to some politicians and groups including Chief Falae.

Falae, who admitted receiving the funds from Anenih in a phone interview yesterday with PREMIUM TIMES, said that the fund was received through the account of the SDP for onward distribution to the state branches of the party.

He also dispelled the statements by some party members that they were not informed that N100m was received by the party from the PDP for the elections.

“It is true I received the money for the party and then it was distributed to the state branches of the party for onward distribution to other levels of the party”, he said. “The money came through the party’s account and it was through this account that the monies were distributed”.

“The account is there for everyone to verify. I can assure you that all the branches of the party in the states received the money”, the former SGF maintained.

Falae said it was unfair for some party members to claim ignorance of the cash donation from the PDP because their respective branches were informed and received the money.

“We have over 200,000 people in the party, am I supposed to go around telling everyone that I have received the money?” he asked.

Falae noted that once the party leaders were involved, they reached out to those at the grassroots.

“I have my integrity in tact”, he said. “I was a former MD of a bank, I was a former minister and a former secretary to the government of the federation”.

“Once they cannot link us to the Dasuki thing, they are coming up with all sorts of things. Based on my integrity, these allegations should be discarded”, he said.

Mr. Falae noted that at his age, which is 78, he has nothing to do with public funds.
