Crisis rocks the Peoples Democratic Party as two different faction holds convention in Abuja and Port Harcourt. As the leadership crisis deepens, the Professor Jerry Gana led stakeholders group held their convention in Abuja while the Alimodu Sheriff fraction held theirs in Port Harcourt with the backing of 12 governors.
However, the Alimodu Sheriff fraction has announced the suspension of its convention that held in Port Harcourt. In a statement released by the party, it says the convention held in Port Harcourt has been suspended as a result of the many court cases and directives from INEC.
“This is to inform our supporters nationwide, all the delegates to the National Convention in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State that the National Convention has been suspended. This is due to the numerous court cases and the directives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to supervise elections into some offices. The 2016 National Convention is suspended to allow time for the cases in court to be resolved. The Party regrets any inconveniences arising from this suspension.
