The Lagos State Government has announced plans to rebrand the transportation system in the state.
According to PUNCH newspaper, this announcement was made by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Dayo Mobereola during the 2016 annual ministerial press conference in Alausa, Ikeja. He said the initiative is to replace the mini buses popularly known as Danfo with high-capacity buses with commuter protection number plates and body tags to show their routes.
“Lagos State motor parks would be restructured in such a way that alcohol and illicit substances would not be there. We are going to teach transport operators in the state behavioural etiquette and how to talk to commuters,” he further said
This implementation which will take place by the next quarter is to phase out the 14-seater buses and replace with 30-seater buses with air-conditioners. He further hinted on plans to enforce the use of approved uniforms for commercial drivers and conductors.
He also added the plan to restructure motor parks and ticketing system which will enable people to download from the internet and use any mode of transport with any hitch.
This transformation arrangement will cover the road, rail and water transport system and curb violence, he added
