7 Ekiti State University Students Die In Fatal Auto Crash Accident




No fewer than seven students of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, are feared dead in an auto crash involving  a car and a commercial bus on Monday evening.

The incident occurred along NNPC-Iwokoro Ekiti State University road yesterday evening, as the students were leaving school after their exam was canceled due to strike. The accident occurred around 7.30pm in front of the institution’s main gate.

An eyewitness account said that six persons died from the impact of an head-on collision of the two vehicles.

According to one of Punch correspondents that the students were in a Lexus saloon car and were coming from Ado Ekiti  town to the university when the accident occurred.

“They must have been heavily drunk and they drove carelessly and collided with the commercial bus. Six people died on the spot while one of them is on danger list”, an eyewitness said the driver of the car, suspected to be under the influence of alcohol with his friends, rammed into the mini bus conveying the students from the campus.

Many others who sustained varying degrees of injuries have been taken to the hospital.


However, Ekiti state Governor, Dr Ayo Fayose visited the victims of yesterday’s accident in his state, calls for 3 days prayer. The governor was at the State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, yesterday, to sympathize with the families of students of the State University, who lost their lives in a fatal accident involving one bus and a school cab. 9 people were involved, with only two survivors.

Speaking at the hospital, Fayose described the incident as unfortunate,

“I sympathize with them. It’s unfortunate. It’s not a good news. It’s one too many. We are saddened We have to take solace in God. Reckless driving and overspending has cost us eight lives. And some others in intensive care unit. I just want to commit them into the hands of God because there is nothing to say for ow rather than to pray that God should console the families and the people of Ekiti state. o ga o, we are seriously bereaved. This is sad. It is unfortunate. I just have to sympathize with families of the dead and commit those still alive into the hands of God. We need to pray to God to avert calamities like this and I urge the people to embark on three days prayer.”
