Nigeria football legend, Sunday Oliseh who once coached the Super Eagles of Nigeria and member of the world conquering Gold winning U-23 dream team at Atlanta 96 Olympics, has dismissed all comparison between the 1996 Dream team and the Samson Siasia led squad who brought home Bronze at the just concluded Rio 2016 Olympics.
A handful of Nigerian players in the dream team squad back then, like Austin Okocha, Sunday Oliseh, Uche Okechukwu, Emmanuel Amuneke and Daniel Amokachi in 1996 had played for the Super Eagles in the World Cup held in USA, two years earlier.
“No, I don’t think so. Every country talks about its own golden generation, and Nigeria is no different. You can’t have several golden generations, or at least not in a short space of time,” Sunday Oliseh replied, when asked if the class of 2016 at Rio can be compared to the 1996 team he participated in, by Fifa.com.
