The Economic and financial Crimes Commission has finally released popular political blogger, Abubakar Sidiq Usman.
Usman was arrested on Monday morning at his residence in Abuja by officials of the EFCC. A statement by the EFCC on its Facebook Page said that Sidiq was arrested for “offences bordering on cyber stalking”.
The statement added that Sidiq was “being questioned over the alleged offence which contravenes sections of the CyberCrime Act”.
However, reports say that his arrest was in connection to a story he published on his website which the EFCC deemed critical of its chairman, Ibrahim Magu.
His release was confirmed by one of Sidiq’s friends in a series of tweets.
Sidiq was later seen in a video after his release, saying that he will not stop doing what he’s doing and he will not retreat nor surrender. The blogger also released a statement via his Twitter handle.
