Akinwunmi Ambode, Governor of Lagos State says road users, especially members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria, must obey the state traffic laws or face the consequences.

Ambode stated this on Saturday during the inauguration of the Ketu-Alapere slip road on Oluwakemi Street, Alapere, in the Kosofe Local Government Area.

Ambode, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, noted that the indiscipline of many commercial drivers, as well as a few private motorists on the road often caused gridlock.

Ambode added that the Ketu-Alapere facility was aimed at ending the gridlock in the area, as well as creating another route to link the Lagos Mainland and Island through the Third Mainland Bridge.

He  reportedly said, “The introduction of the slip road is to eradicate delays caused by commercial vehicles at the Alapere Junction by expanding it to accommodate about 15 vehicles at a time with adequate space to avoid congestion at any time.

“Transport unions must educate their members on observation of traffic laws and road etiquette for the safety of all. Transport unions are also advised not to use the expanded Alapere-Ketu bus stop for union activities.”

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Anofiu Elegushi, explained that the slip road was not a bus stop.

“It is a bypass for motorists to use at all times. The intent is to reduce travel time,” he said
